Do you want to change the way the transition to parenthood is experienced by Parents?

Support parents’ antenatally and postnatally through in-depth group classes or individual support with this Parent, not baby, focused accredited diploma. This 14 module programme will give you comprehensive training on becoming a postnatal doula and education specialist.

This Diploma is unique as it sets you up to be able to provide 15 hour group courses during the antenatal period, as well as group support sessions or individual support postnatally.

Many Postnatal Care Practitioners feel drawn to this line of work, but find that most trainings only touches on the Parents’, instead focusing on the baby. This diploma focuses solely on the parent –both parents! And it’s not about cooking or cleaning either!

Bringing together evidenced based care with spiritual and holistic practices enables you to support your Parents’ as whole person respecting their social and cultural needs, enhancing their emotional and mental wellbeing.  

Perhaps you are curious about creating a career in this field of work but don’t have any prior knowledge or experience? That’s fine – there are no entry requirements or expectations of prior learning.  Or maybe you are seeking ways to expand your business and enhance the support and care you offer your current parents Perhaps you recognise that the brief  section on postnatal topics touched on by childbirth classes is not good enough and you want better for your parents’?

This Diploma will enable you to either start a new career as a Postnatal Doula & Education Specialist or  enhance your current business. This Diploma will set you up as an expert so that you can offer in depth support in a variety of ways.

This controversial and ethical-based module takes an in-depth look at what informed choice really means, how we can enable parents to achieve effective support from caregivers.

Reflective practice ensures your awareness of the impact that past experiences, your own beliefs, and values have on behaviour, current and future thoughts, and decision making.

This module will help you develop your communication skills, confidence and knowledge to help you guide groups of expectant parents through pregnancy and into parenthood. This Level 3 award will enable you to demonstrate transferable skills to further your education or career should you wish.

During pregnancy and after birth the Mothers’ brain goes through biological and functional development and remodelling in preparation for their new role – this module explores the impact and how to support parents with this phenomenon. 

 

Explore how Parents’ can get improved duration and quality of sleep and why this is so important – without sleep training the baby, moving onto formula or moving the baby into a nursery!

Learn about the various ways to plan for a postnatal period. Discuss the various cultural differences, from herbs under the pillow to special diets – which can be supported by research and which… er are not!

Examine the ways this can help reduce the incidence of mental health complications for your parents.

Nutrition is a vital factor for postnatal outcomes – especially Mental Health.

Discover ways that parents can be mum/dad and their individual selves. Support your parent to navigate the challenges in developing personal growth, and examine the art of questioning, gatekeeping and soul time as tools to discover, regain, and develop self.

Discover how bonding occurs and what impacts the bond between parent and child. Support your parent to strengthen and develop this bond and examine the impacts of poor bonding experiences.

Learn about the changes the body goes through following birth and support your parent with recovery tips to help to heal. 

Examine the issues of self-confidence and look at the impacts and influences on this important element of parenting.

After the baby is born, many partners’ find themselves displaced, unsure of how to embrace the transition to parenthood, some Dads even hide their new “status” from work.

Partners that were supported in connecting to both the baby and birthing persons during pregnancy experienced fewer mental health issues and stronger relationship bonds with both their partner and baby – but most classes do not address this need effectively, relegating Dad to just the masseur during labour, neglecting his highly important role during pregnancy and onwards.

Learn about the structure of the pelvic floor and how its’ design helps birth. 

Bust the myths around pelvic floor issues and see if the type of birth really does impact the floor – if so how?

Examine the different types of treatments and see where to signpost.

Purely a practical module where you can look at cultural tips and tricks to make the postnatal period a time of enjoyable recovery and learning for your parents, not a stressed out, guilt-ridden time! And yes this goes so far beyond, batch cook and freeze meals…

Taking a look into barriers various communities face and how educators can help Parents to overcome them. Looking at LGBTQ, Ethic Othered, those living with disabilities in particular. 

Safeguarding helps protect yourself and those you are working with. This includes both the parents and the babies. Learn the signs of harm, abuse, neglect and how to support and signpost. A template for a safeguarding policy is included.

Our Workshops are designed to help you practice your teaching and communication skills and build your confidence.  A  photographer and videographer will also be present to support you in building your brand presence! 

These are not compulsory and you do not need to attend to pass your qualification.

Details are sent out towards the end of your training. Location/dates vary but is usually Spring or Autumn within the Midlands
